Whitney Merrifield will put thousands of miles on the road before making the January trek to Las Vegas to compete for the Miss America crown.

Whitney Merrifield , who represented Miss Utah County, was named Miss Utah 2009 Saturday night in Salt Lake City. The Brigham University student’s ambition is to be a broadcast journalist. Whitney Merrifield's victory Saturday resulted in her being awarded a $10,000 scholarship to further her education.

Whitney Merrifield's platform is ““Be the Change Utah – Creating Unity and Breaking Stereotypes” and acting as the official spokesperson for the Child Protection Registry, an organization dedicated to protecting Utah families from adult-oriented solicitations,” according to the Miss Utah website.
