Many people were excited to hear that Angelina Jolie was reportedly playing Marilyn Monroe in an upcoming movie, but it turns out the fans have been bamboozled.

The LA Times has the official word that Jolie will not be playing the legendary Monroe in a new movie that is based on a biography of Marilyn's dog. She had reportedly beat out Scarlett Johannson and Christina Hendricks from Mad Men, who seems like a perfect choice if this ever does really happen.

Well, it seems sort of obvious when you put it that way. The LA Times' Ministry of Gossip has confirmed that Angelina Jolie is not attached to star as Marilyn Monroe in the adaptation of author Andrew O'Hagan's novel The Life And Opinions Of Maf The Dog, And Of His Friend Marilyn Monroe. The Daily Mail reported that O'Hagan (Be Near Me) had recently revealed that Jolie had beat out Scarlett Johansson and Christina Hendricks for the role. His novel, well-received in the UK and hitting US shelves in December, is told from the perspective of Marilyn's beloved pet Mafia Honey (Maf for short), a gift from Frank Sinatra in 1960.
