The upcoming royal wedding in Sweden has been called off suddenly, and rumors abound that cheating was the cause.

Princess Madeleine was set to marry Jonas Bergstrom, but recent reports broke that he had recently cheated with a college student, after they had already been engaged. There has been no confirmation of this story, but the cancellation of the marriage is officially confirmed.

In a court statement released by the Royal family, it was explained: "After having thought it through thoroughly, the Princess Madeleine and Mr. Jonas Bergstrom have made the decision to go their separate ways." The statement asked for "peace and quiet in this difficult situation. The extreme coverage by the press is not making this situation any easier for them,"

Reportedly the two had not been seen together in a long while, and many believed this outcome was inevitable. A shame that this relationship could not work out, but perhaps for the best that they figured it out before committing to marriage, and didn't go through with it for appearance's sake.

Sweden's Princess Madeleine has called off her planned wedding to Jonas Bergstrom, the Swedish Royal Court announced following press reports that Bergstrom had sex with a college student during their engagement. A top Swedish royal-watcher said the announcement that Madeleine's engagement was off had "cleared the air" after widespread speculation that it was going badly. "It felt like the end of a road where they had to turn one way or the other, and now they have chosen their path," said Elisabeth Tarras-Wahlberg, a former head of press for the Royal Court and now a royal expert for Sweden's TV4.
