America Ferrera: New Project!

Now that Ugly Betty has ended its run, the show;s star America Ferrera had been on the market for a new vehicle to star in, at least in between movie gigs. But now the beloved actress has found a new project.

Ferrera will be executive producing a new telenovela style show named Pedro & Maria. It will be loosely based, say initial reports, on the classic story of Romeo and Juliet, maybe you've heard of it.

The show will be bilingual, and is being produced partly in conjunction with MTV. Ferrera rose to fame as the star of TVs Ugly Betty, and has since escalated her career on the big screen with hit movies like Real Women Have Curves, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. But she still has more to achieve in the television world, and she certainly seems smart and talented enough to do great things in the future, both behind the camera and in front of it.

"Ugly Betty" will soon be over for its star, America Ferrera, but she's got a new project in the works from behind the scenes. Ferrera will serve as executive producer of "Pedro & Maria," a multicultural, interactive telenovela in development for MTV television and various Web platforms. The project was announced Monday by MTV and Electus, the multimedia studio created by the prolific producer and former NBC executive Ben Silverman. "Pedro & Maria" is billed as a bilingual, modern-day version of "Romeo & Juliet" that will give its audience the ability to vote on the direction the characters and story lines take.
