Tattoo: Basic Training Taboo!

Tattoos and the Air Force are just not getting along recently, with several controversies arising over their strict ban on tattoos for new recruits coming into basic training.

One female recruit was allowed to slide in with her arm tattoo of a clown, but another man was recently barred at the last minute from starting basic training, when the Air Force noticed the tattoo on his bicep of his own name in Hebrew. The rule specifically bars tattoos on the right arm or the hands.

It wasn't a sexy half-naked lounging lady. It doesn't say "Mom."

Josh Parker's months-old tattoo was enough to bar him from entering the U.S. Air Force on Monday under a policy instituted just last week for those not fully enrolled in the service. Parker, 18, was called to his recruitment office Monday morning, the day he was scheduled to report for basic training, for a review of the tattoo...

Who really cares about the Air Force?

Frank...Just a thought but without the sacrifices of all of those who have served in all branches of the military, to include the Air Force, you wouldn't have the freedom to voice your apathy toward the Air Force.

Barring tats from the right arm/hand is because this is the hand/arm you salute with. Rules are rules - what a concept. Deal with it.

What a way to avoid the draft when it becomes neccesary again. Get a big tatoo on your right arm.
As for welcome to Amerika, you are so right. It bugs me that my neice serves under that thing as commander in chief.
It was bad enough I served under clinton in the Navy. But at least he was a citizen and a legal president.

This citizen of the United States wishes to serve his country and is told no is a disgrace. The persons who created this stupid rule need to rethink it. Tattoos weren't an issue when our grandparents fought world war two or when our parents were drafted for the Veitnam war. If the draft is ever called upon again and this guys name comes up I hope he shows you his tattoo agian and then his middle finger!

The United States military have long had regulations on what can and can not be seen or done to the body. Its all for reasons. As a member of any of the branches you are upheld to a higher standard to give a sense of value and comfort to the citizens of America.
Now as for the first posting about forget the Air Force this person might want to look back at the history modern Warfare and remember that to win any war you must have control of the Air Water and Land.
Lastly I want to say God Bless all who have Served to me you are Everything.

This is the problem with this country. Nobody wants
to follow rules.Be it how to behave in school to

every one else.

The military has rules and regulations for a reason, plain and simple. They have every right to set rules. If you don't like a rule, don't join. Knowone is forcing you! However, if you're that adamant about joining, then have the tattoo removed....what was it I heard about our men and women who serve are "sacrificing".....Interesting concept, you should learn from it! Don't expect the military to change because of your "feelings"

Other services have instituted stricter tatt regs over the years to control gangs and racist groups from proliferating. And anything that can be seen openly when in dress uniform is a no-go. Obviously, that just forces them to find other ways to express themselves, but what ya gonna do? The Air Force has always been elitist with regards to serving, I was angered and offended years ago because of their policy of not admitting prior service. Anyone who has served knows that common sense and military regulations bump heads quite often. I do find it a shame that soldiers/sailors/airmen-women are the first ones who have to sacrifice their basic rights as Americans in order to defend those very rights, but that is the price you pay for a disciplined fighting force. However, I do feel that all branches should get on one sheet of music and make a basic policy for all.

That is why the airforce is gay as hell. People trying to serve there country and they cant because the Air Force wants to pretend it is still 1965. Kiss my Army ass Air Force. Go Army all day long.

Chris I like how you pointed out that to win a war you must have control of the Land Sea and Air. So lets just change those words around a bit. Sea Air Land = U.S. Navy Seals. Gotcha beat go Navy. Oh and the navy allows tattoo's on both arms. And as for being held to higher standards read the report there was a female allowed in even though she had a clown tatooed to her arm. Besides its not liek fly boys and girls have worn there blue uniforms in the past 5 years. All I have seen is their cammies.

The tatoo rule went into effect in 2007 for all the armed service, long before Barack was elected. I know because I retired from the military in 2007 with over 30yrs of service.
