When you see a celebrity hanging out with Sorrell Trope, chances are that celebrity's marriage won't be around much longer. And the latest famous person to hire the Dean of celebrity divorce lawyers is Elin Nordegren, who is of course embroiled in a bitter dispute now with her husband Tiger Woods. Trope has been accompanying celebrities to divorce court ever since 1949, and is expected to help Elin arrange a post-nup agreement, that goes further than the pre-nup she signed when first marrying Tiger. Trope has been in court for other celebs including Cary Grant, Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage, Hugh Grant and even Britney Spears, though he wound up dropping her. What does it say about our society, that celebrity divorces are so common now that divorce lawyers are celebrities?
"There is just one Sorrell Trope," said Manhattan divorce lawyer Robert Wallack. "He's the dean of the California matrimonial bar.
