Second-Grader & Crucifix Drawing

In today's Is This Really Necessary news, a child was forced to go home from school because of a drawing of a crucifix.

The boy, a second grader in Massachusetts, drew a picture of a man on a cross, which he labeled as himself, but it wasn't clear if it was supposed to be himself or Jeses, or both. The teacher apparently was alarmed, also that the boy drew Jesus with an X for each eye, although this seems natural given that Jesus did die on the cross.

The father says he suspects racism is involved. Hard to know what to make of it. Seems a bit unnecessary though, for the poor kid!

An 8-year-old boy was sent home from school and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation after he was asked to make a Christmas drawing and came up with what appeared to be a stick figure of Jesus on a cross, the child's father said Tuesday...Chester Johnson told WBZ-TV that his son made the drawing on Dec. 2 after his second-grade teacher asked children to sketch something that reminded them of the holiday. Johnson said the teacher became upset when his son said he drew himself on the cross...

It appears to me that the child merely got his Holy Days mixed up - Christmas and Easter. But he was 'smart' enough to say it was himself on the cross in view of the religious bias toward anything Christian in our public schools. He doesn't need psychoanalysis - but that teacher surely does!

Posted by: Anonymous at December 16, 2009 10:15 AM

I appears that everyones rights are respected except the Christian. All the other religions flock here to enjoy freedom of religion, but we are suppose to give up everything!!!!!

Posted by: barbara lakey at December 16, 2009 10:29 AM

This is dead wrong! first they take prayer out of schools because other religions get offended WTF.... This country which was based on christianty is now falling apart. If we truly have freedom of religion, I dont see it! This child should not have been sent home or even considered for a psychoanalysis! The teacher is ignorant, the real meaning of Christmas is the birth of Christ... What in the world did she expect him to draw? presents? gifts? Those things are not what Christmas is all about! the teacher should be evualated!

Posted by: sam at December 16, 2009 11:04 AM

We could see the child using a cross for his symbal for Christmas because the first six letters are Christ. We are not allowed to pray in school. We are not allowed to pray at asemblies. If anyone has a problem with this childs drawing then they need to look at their own souls or their walk with God. I think that this is the time of year that everyone needs to look within themselves. MERRY CHRISTMAS

Everyone has freedom of religion except Christians. Well no more.I'm sick and tired of tolerating others and no one wants to be respectful of us. We as Christians must take our country back. For starters, get rid of "Happy Holidays". When some one says "Happy Holidays", respond with "Merry Christmas" Jesus is the reason for the season.Start today...

Why is it that a child is judged so closely on a drawing? He is a kid!!! This country has gone nuts! CHRISTmas is the celebration of CHRIST Leave the kid alone.

Posted by: Rowena Park at December 16, 2009 11:25 AM

I think you all miss the point. It is Christianity that is offensive to the teacher, it is the fact that the boy said it was himself hanging on the cross. That shows a pretty morbid preoccupation with a horrible death for a second grader. I think the teacher is probably looking out for his mental health, although his spiritual health seems a little over the top too

Why in the hell that everytime something goes againest blacks its always racism? They(blacks)have the world by the tail and they are still crying. They are the only race that is still looking for reparation after 200yrs,when the rest of the world has been kissing their ass to make them happy. They are allowed to marry white trash, ride in the front of the bus, etc. and they are still whining. What they need to do is look at the Native American,a race that their own black soldiers tried to exterminate off the face of the earth, and Buffalo soldiers were called heros, you never hear them crying or complaining about anything. The majority live worse than 3rd world countries and you don"t hear a whimper.Quit your damm crying or go back where your ancestors came from and take Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton with you.Sent your kid back to school and maybe one of these days he will be an artist.

I agree! Christians are the most discriminated against people in this country. We have no rights any more. If this continues we will have to be worshipping in secret soon. Christ said we would be reviled & hated in His name. Are we going to have to search for caves in which to worship, as the early Christains did??? We have grown so complaciant in this country. We no longer think for ourselves, we have the herd mentality. Wake up America!!! Just as Hitler tried to exterminate the Jewish people our country is tryiing to exterminate Christianity. Don't misunderstand me, they are not killing Christians, yet, they are killing our faith. I am a 58yr. old woman who simply can't believe how this country has changed in my lifetime. Not only this country but, the whole world. God is not going to allow the world to continue along the path it is now following. People, WAKE UP. As far as the teacher is concerned, perhaps the child saying it was he on the cross alarmed her. And perhaps she had his mental well being in mind. We don't know whether she had seen other signs from this child that had disturbed her. Even if this is the case here there have been so many other alarming cases in which Christianity has been atatacked. It is happening daily in the Land Of The Free.

Posted by: Patsy at December 16, 2009 11:44 AM

Although the whole Jesus-is-god thing is totally bogus, I certainly support the right of this boy to draw Jesus on the cross, even with (gasp) X's for eyes.

Posted by: Netgk at December 16, 2009 1:10 PM

I feel so bad for the kid and his father, and I only hope and pray that the kid can see that he did NOTHING wrong but the teacher completely missed the whole point of the kids drawing. The Christian religion has been under attack for NO apparent reason, the pure princible's of Christianity is to do well with God, honor your parents, don't steal, don't lie, don't mistreat others, don't judge others, respect your elders, don't cheat on your spouse, be giving...etc and there is so much more GOOD nothing but good that Christianiy teaches us, and so much of our great nation basic morals are what Christianity teaches us so why are those who don't believe have such a big problem with it when all we try to do is GOOD. I'm a big believer in JESES Christ(mass) our Lord and Savior. And I will pray for our God almighty to have mercy on us all.

We must ehort this demontic uprising now. We have to put Christ back into Christmas and all year long.

This has nothing to do with religion. Childrens' behaviors are being pathologized. Please read a new book titled, "The War on Kids".

Posted by: Anonymous at December 16, 2009 1:57 PM

As a Christian, I am not supposed to judge, so I
feel that everyone has the right to make their own
choices, as long as it doesn't adversely affect
someone else or their rights. If one chooses to
worship differently than I do, God gave them free
will to do so. However, I have a real problem with the fact that I, as a Christian, have less rights than those who have come to this country and bombarded us with their religions, all in the name of free speech and their rights. It's a pretty sad state of affairs when a child cannot even draw a picture of his own interpretation because the teacher (and I use the term loosely, as she certainly wouldn't be my choice to teach my children or grandchildren) has a different perspective. Not to mention the fact that they are having him psychoanalized as a result. So, now we are crazy if we believe that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ. If you go to any other country, they don't change their religion or their laws to suit us. Why are we so
lax when it comes to what we believe in and allow our citizens to be abused because we have the audacity to believe in Jesus.
They took prayer out of the schools to appease a crazy women's rights and look at the result. Our school system has suffered violence and disrespect ever since.
The upside of this incident is that it has created a dialogue about how absurd this political correctness has become.

Posted by: Gena at December 16, 2009 2:03 PM

Before you all start throwing stones...get your facts straight. It appears that the father may be a publicity seeker just as balloon boy's parents were. This is not even the picture that the child drew. The whole thing has been misinterpreted by the press and the school has issued a statement. You shouldn't be feeling bad for the parent, you should be feeling bad for the school and the town.

Posted by: Jane at December 16, 2009 2:32 PM

I too read something that hinted that the drawing shown to the press was not the one the kid drew in class. I don't know if it's true, but we should await proof before deciding what we believe. That's also how we should approach other questions, like the existence of god or any other phenomenon. As we increase our knowledge, we can reduce the amount that we need to take on faith.

Posted by: Netgk at December 16, 2009 2:45 PM

The birth of Christ is about the death of Christ, which is about the resurrection of Christ, which is about the eventual return and reign of Christ.

If this kid drew himself on the cross, perhaps he understood something the teacher obviously didn't: that each of us as humans deserve to be on that cross but Jesus died in our place.

It was just plain idiotic for the kid to be sent home and forced to undergo a psychiatric evaluation (thus setting up psychiatry/psychology as a source of absolute truth) before being allowed to return - though the school strangely denied that the assignment was for the students to draw something that reminded them of Christmas and denied that kid had been suspended from school.

Of course, the crucifixion was a violent act perpetrated on an innocent man (even if you don't believe all that propitiatory sacrifice stuff the Christians believe, Jesus was at the very least executed because the religious establishment was jealous of his popularity). I wish that others, when thinking of Christmas, would be led to think about the crucifixion as well - since it was for that purpose that the birth of Christ took place.

Posted by: Bonnie at December 16, 2009 3:48 PM

Everybody involved is making a big dealout of nothing. Kids at that age draw all sorts of things "grown ups" may find offensive or disturbing. The best course of action would be to ignore what the child did, and get on with teaching...that is what teachers are there for.

If the kids parents want to contribute to the "god/jesus myth" then that is their right to do so at home. But for me..it is all so much hogwash and wishful thinking by a bunch of people who are either afraid to, or are unwilling to think rationally for themselves.

Steve,
You crack me up...seriously...have you done the research?
The whole Jesus story is an almost word for word repeat of the story of Horus...and 2 or 3 others before him...long circulated throughout the middle east.
I have no fear...I am a good person who behaves in a responsible and moral manner. My failure to belive in a superstitious tale that only serves to preserve power of a small minority over the masses is no failing in my eyes.
If it gives you peace to believe in god, then go right ahead...it is your right to do so. A right I would defend to the death, being a good American. I just don't believe it myself.

As an educator, I must say I have come across more alarming things than just that! Some things arent even necessary to take any further than contacting the parent if she was that alarmed by the drawing. Now if the student has had some disturbing behavior in the past and she has beenin contact with the parents through this school year, then I can see her following protocol. But come on mannnnn, I actually encourage my students to pray by telling them that I do it daily to help with my temperance in dealing with them as well as problems we are faced with daily. I dont think the media should have ever gotten knowledge of this story. I have actually had students that we have had to confiscate drugs from (that says he has aplantin his house) as well as one that brought a loaded weapon to school )(which went off in a locker) that he broughfor retaliation against a bully and neither child underwent any psychoanalysis that we know of to this day. When they asked God to leave the schools, the enemy felt he had free will as well as free reign. THis story proves that even more. Can u say, "real meaning of Christmas?"

Besides, they were made out of either blatant ignorance or in wanton disregard for the facts. Furthermore, the comments are full of atrocious grammatical errors, albeit comprehensible.

Christianity under attack? I wish! The last crucifiction I drew was a lot worse than that, but it wasn't me on the cross - it was Jesus himself, complete with horns, forked tongue, and pointy tail! Yeah! Christian message of love? Nah! The church has been a parasitic violent institution from day one, and I hope for its downfall as soon as possible!
Values and morality? I believe in equal rights for women, gay marriage, respect for one's elders, charity, compassion, honesty, the value of human life.
That child should be taught about the history of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and how these have had a profound and devastating effect on the world we live in today, as should you all!
Wake up!

This is overblown and typical of how society has been tainted into believing that christianity is wrong and not needed in schools. It unbelievable how polically correct we have to be now days. When my son was very young he was watching sesame street, and wanted to know when we were to celebrate quanza (sp). He also thought we lived in africa, because there was no depiction of the united states let alone christian holidays. I remember when we had christmas and easter vacation not winter and spring break. We could sing christmas carols that had religious themes instead of just Jingle bells or frosty the snowman. And for pity sake, it is a CHILD drawing a picture. I remember at an open house in 3d grade we could decorate our folders anyway we wanted. I drew tombstones complete with ghost coming out of the ground. Neither my teaher or my mother had a melt down about it, and I have no idea why I drew it at the time. I was just being creative and went with something different. There was no explaination-It was a childs drawing-don't try to read so much into things.

I'm amazed that so many people are claiming that Christians are the most discriminated against group in America. I'd laugh if it weren't so sad.

Christians are by FAR the most discriminatory group in the US. Look at Prop 8, polls concerning whether or not people will vote for someone based on religion, legal policy in the South, hell even the presidential election of 2008. It sickens me that you try to make yourselves the victims when you are the victimisers.

Stop acting like martyrs and start acting like saints.

Posted by: Incredulous at December 19, 2009 4:03 AM

As the kids say, OMG...wow, these Christians feel they are so put on and discriminated against. Lets see-two of your holidays are the most celebrated in the world where most people get the day off work (Xmas and Easter). Your churches are tax-free. There are tens of thousands of churches in the US. Your preachers are all over TV and radio, bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars a year of tax free income to shysters and scammers. That same tax free income is allowed to be used to influence political opinions all over the United States. Yet, you christians also want to bitch and complain about anything, like Halloween, that you don't agree with. You want everything to be the way you want it. Face it...you don't like the way the country is because its not the way you want it...all I have to say is this. Jesus Christ would be aghast at the attitudes and beliefs of most so-called Christians today, regardless of race.

And for those of you criticizing the school, if the kid had emotional problems, and kids often hide emotional problems in their drawings, you would have been screaming for the teacher's head if the kid would have tried to kill or harm himself.

That teacher should learn more aboutchildren if she wants to teach them. As dor those who are saying they are against all religions and beliefs, may I ask one question of you. I wish everyone would calm down. Life is full of little trials, and those who proclaim themselves Christians, should ask,"What would Jesus say about something like this?" He was, and still is, the best example of peace and tolerance ever to grace this corrupt earth, whether you believe he was God or not. I was also very intrigued by one writer's reference to Halloween. I would like that person to research the holiday, and find its connection with All Hallows Eve, the evening before Catholics celebrate All Saints Day. And it's true that teachers accept very macabre drawings, dress, and behavior at Halloween without screaming for psychoanalysis. If the child has a history of unacceptable behaviors, then this could be an important warning. However, it could just be a very confused child trying to understand mysteries adults are going to wars over. God Bless(sorry atheists).

I love how all these so-called Christians love to throw stones at everyone but if one gets thrown at a christian its holy war!!!Saying you wouldn't want someone teaching your children in school because they have different beliefs supports my theory. Chrisitans are the most pessimistic, intolerant, money hungry, hell bent on war, liars, hypocrites. In a day and age that christians sway every vote so their rights aren't affected and nobody else gets any rights if the bible thumping nut jobs want to quote certain verses of a book that even they admit has been rewritten to support the affectiveness of their faith. It is a fact that the stories in the bible were actually plagerized from other cultures that came before christianity. The christian faith is leading all the other religions of the world in murders, child molestation, money laundering, hypocrisy, and tryin to control the entire world.
I think its time the christian sheeple need to wake up and quit crying because they follow a faith that condemns every "sin" until they are the perpetrators, then it is god's will they sodomized that child or drowned a child because god told them to do it. Religion has and always will be the downfall of every civilization as it has throughout history.
The child needs evaluated since he is picturing himself as the son of god or that he wants to die. This is just another story to bring people to back up the re-integration of only christian holidays and to hell with all other religions. And of course the race card is being thrown out there so Al and Jesse will jump on board and get the family money, fame, and most of all...pity. I say that the father needs to be evaluated as well, seems that he has no problem letting his child have fantasies of being killed and being Jesus.

What you all don't seem to realize is that children have a right by law to act on their own religious beliefs. In the public school systems, Teachers are not allowed to view their own beliefs but students are allowed too. Although the child said it was him on the cross was just merely him being a second grader. I am a teacher and what that child did was not uncommon for them to put themselves in a drawing. The child could also being acting from always being told that you can't talk about Jesus in school therefore he was improvising using himself in place of Jesus. Big deal. He obviously understands that Jesus is the reason for the season and he did die on the cross for all of us (which obviously he has been taught at home which is evident by his picture)and he is putting Easter and Christmas together. People now adays are so afraid of mentioning religion or Jesus or whatever your belief because of the media and people who feel their "rights" are being invaded. Well I am here to tell you that believing is a right and that is what the issue is not that a child drew a picture of Jesus claiming to be himself. Think about it, he obviously new that it was a no, no not to speak of him (which again check the laws, children have every right to speak their beliefs in or out of puplic school with no recourse)I bet that when the teacher gave instructions of drawing something that made you think of the holidays, she said remember you cannot draw anything that has to do with religion or Jesus. The teacher was wrong very wrong to say the child needed an evaluation. Number one, she is not a doctor and therefore is not allowed to make an opinion like that she can get in lots of trouble and literally be fired as a teacher for mentioning the young boy needed a psych evaluation. You are not allowed to do to this as a teacher. She needs to read up on the laws herself and remember that so long as the child wasn't harming himself or anyone else, he was not in the wrong. She was...

Without anymore than what has been written - please don't anyone let your anger have you sin and please don't allow the sun go down on your wrath. God is still on His throne and even this is under His control. He will work this out to His glory not ours. Pray for this child, his teacher, the school administrators, our local, county, state and nation leaders that they all honor God in all they do and that God gives them the strength and conviction to always make decisions that glorify Him. And may we all pray for this in OUR PRECIOUS LORD JESUS NAME - can I get an AMEN! Merry Christ's birth to all!

Not totally familiar with the story but consider the non-story facts.
This comes from the top down. Legislators created laws to protect everyones' right and in turn trample over many rights. The teacher reacted as she was taught and told to react. Perhaps a little paranoid but she did what she was supposed to do...she reported it to her boss the principal who in turn headed up the ladder to the administrator...who hands are also tied by law...they employ a psychologist (as required, WHO makes the recommendation for analysis...not the teacher). I don't like the reaction of the teacher but that is what WE want of those in charge of the care of our children (we elect legislators and school board members etc etc).
As a christian, I, too, feel a little put out with "society's" attitude toward my faith life, but that is what we deal with in a multi-cultural/spiritual(and non-spiritual) society. We are called to proclaim the Gospel but also accept others as they are and for who they are...God willing (yes Virginia, there is God) win them to the faith. Along with accept we are called to respect their convictions in whatever way they go.
For the boy and his parents, God bless you all for standing by your beliefs, however this is between them and the school board. Not the teacher...she is only doing what she has been trained and (legally) required to do.
For you hardliners and softliners, pray for the situation (who knows he may become an artist...or evangelist)...for you no-liners...back off...you won this round.
GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!!!! AMEN!!!!!

Remember: We all were not there in the classroom the day when this happened nor do we know what kind of school this is, what the school background is, or the background of the teacher or student. From what I have read maybe the teacher feared that the student might harm himself. It's better to be safe then sorry. Drawings have to be taken seriously.

Even if you believe in God or not the true meaning of Christmas is about Jesus. A kid shouldnt be punished for drawling what he knows. Everyone know Jesus died on the cross for our sins even if you dont believe in him. Im sure you have heard the story!!

"I have the best husband in the world!" :She is the most beautiful baby in the world" Who argues?
We don't call them idiots,or misguided. We just understand and do not debate...if we are intelligent. So know this, some of us believe in Jesus, who He is and why He came. It gives us peace, when we accept that and let it direct our life. Some apparently upset people rationalize it is 'hogwash' and cannot believe because they cannot understand. We understand that 'believing' is the gift for 'believing.' Someone is going to be wrong. Either I shall have lived a joyful life (and that does not mean deliriously 'happy' but 'content') and when I die and find out how small my appreciation really was of how wonderful my new life throughout eternity will be. Those others, will find out they were 'right' and that 'intellect' was all there was, and there is no reward for faith in Jesus or gratitude. Which one does an intelligent person want to be?

For me i don't celebrate Christmas nor have i trained my children to either. I find it important for my children to know the truth. What many here don't understand is Jesus didn't teach ones to remember or celebrate his birth. Rather he gave instructions to remember his death. The early Christians did not celebrate Christmas. Do your research people, many of you have been blinded. You can't mix in Paganism with Christianity and say it's ok. Do your research on Christmas----how it got started. For those who believe there is no God or God does not exist, what causes you to think that way? There were those in Noah's day that probably thought the same as you. Wake up people and teach your children the truth. There are those of you who speak of fighting for freedom so that we may choose what we want to believe. Jesus never taught to fight one another rather it was to love one another. Being a "REAL" Christian is hard, Jesus set the example, he didn't conform to other people's thinking, remember Peter? Jesus didn't practice, preach or teach untruths. He did exactly what his father, his GOD instructed him to do.

The reason he was kicked out is the rooted in the same reason that all of you are whining. Your just whining about it and doing nothing else concerted, and so the result will continue to be the same or worsen.
You voted for Obama. You're going to vote for socialist healthcare and increased taxes. You're going to vote for everything you don't believe in because you won't vote and you won't get involved in politics.

When people say Happy Holidays, do they know what the reason for the holiday is? If they don't belive in christ then why are they on holiday? Sounds double standard to me. I have just one thing to say MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

Posted by: Debbie at December 19, 2009 12:44 PM

I know some good religious people, and I know some bad religious people. Yes, some Christians are persecuted, just as some Christians are persecuting others. Some of you are really playing it up though. I'll be sure to let the gays know you're being persecuted, I'll keep it in mind next time a Christian tells me I'm going to Hell for not accepting Jesus as my savior. I'll tell the Jews who died under Hitler while the Vatican was cutting back room deals with the fascists in Italy and Germany to save their butts. While I'm at it I'll tell those who died at the hands of the Crusaders, as well as those who died horrible deaths at the hands of the Inquisition and at the Salem Witch trials. Not to mention the indigenous people of North America who suffered acts of genocide at the hands of God fearing Christians. Oh, you can't put a nativity scene in the capital building, so sorry, it's called Separation of Church and State. Cultures were celebrating that time of year long before Christ, so any Christian claim that it is their holiday alone, is without merit. The celebration of Christ's birth was moved to the 25th in an effort to usurp a well established pagan holiday, the winter solstice. Persecution huh? There is an old saying that "what goes around comes around." Be thankful you're not getting as good as you've given.

Can u guys read, the teacher was concerned he said it was himself hanging on the cross, that could easily be a sign of a deeper issue.

Posted by: Chris at December 19, 2009 3:37 PM

This child had visited somewhere the day before where he noticed crucifixes.. I'm remembering from a more fully detailed report the other day. That image makes quite an impact on a child, right... and he incorporated it into his art assignment. Children are not exercising adult values when something like this happens. & I like that drawing a lot, is it for sale?

My son and family were at the live pagent .The one of the whole story of god about what happend to him.My child for that week could not get it out of his mind .He even was at school around christmas time last year .The teacher said draw a pic of something to do with christmas .He drew the same thing .So its ok and hes a great kid .

Perhaps the teacher jumped the gun. It would seem that to be the case. Perhaps when she asked who it was, and the boy answered, "He," the boy meant Christ because Christ is refered to as HE in the bible several times. I understand everyone's frustration with not allowing religion in school. My daughter was asked to bring her favorite book to school for reading free time, so she brought her bible and the teacher told her it was inappropriate for her to have her bible at school and made her put it in her back pack and take it home. I, as a Christian, was offended that my daughter's right to read her favorite book was treated that way. She had also been asked not to pray for her lunch at school either because it may offend other students. Well, she didn't force them to participate in her prayer, so what was the harm. Later that same day, a boy threated to slit her throat if he saw her praying again, and the boy was not punished in any way. That is disturbing. We have had teachers over react to things involving our children at school. Some times they just take their "authority" too far without realizing that they are not all powerful and can't do what they want. It does sound like the teacher in this case was offened by the child's drawing, not the child. Sad.

This has become a very lost and sad nation. We are supposed to be able to have freedom of religion. My family has fought in every war to ensure this. We can't pray at school??? Why??? Because an Athiest might get offended??? Too bad, I have a right to believe in God and if I want to pray than so be it. If they don't want to then thats their issue. This world is falling apart. I know when God returns I will walk him.

It seems to me that that little boy has a serious problem. Good for the teacher that spotted it. Whatever god you believe in, out of the hundreds or thousands, that boy has a problem.

I am a retired military veteran, proud of the U.S. Constitution, and religiously agnostic. However, I am sick to death of the constant misinterpretation of the Bill of Rights which guarantees all citizens the freedom OF religion and NOT freedom FROM religion! How our justice and social system has come to the enforcement of the latter is a total mystery to me. The United States was founded on the belief in God, whoever and however he/she is perceived or even not perceived. Belief is part of the American way of life and to truly honor the true message of Constitution, demonstrations of our personal beliefs should and must be a part of everyone’s daily routine to be shared with all others.
I STRONGLY feel that the government and the public school system should encourage open demonstration and discussion of ALL religions, prayer, and beliefs in order to foster total religious tolerance, which I believe was the true aim of Bill of Rights. I believe three minutes of open prayer in alternating beliefs followed by a 30-50 minute course in comparative religious studies, ending with three minutes of silent prayer in one’s own belief or reflection should be a part of a weekly/daily curriculum in all primary and secondary education.
In this current age of intolerance and faith-based terrorism, it is crucially important to have an understanding of the other guy(s) and the only way to achieve that end is through open sharing with one another without fear of reprisal or offense and the only way to do that is through our education system. I once heard that “GOD” has nine billion names, it is about time we began to discover a few of them! (Personally, I have a preference to a universal Gaia.)
If you think I am on to something here, please feel free to copy my post and forward it on to as many as you know and especially to your state and federal representatives. I am aware, however that many of you, especially the religious fundamentalists, rather than the non-religious, would be against my proposal simply because you feel your own belief system can be the only true religion and do not want your children to be exposed to any other way of thinking, which is the primary reason why the world seems to be returning to the Dark Ages and the genocide of crusades.

BTW: Have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

You do not have to believe in Christ as God to celebrate the birthday of the one person who changed the entire world more than any other person in history. We have holidays for Washington, Licoln, and even Martin Luthor King. I don't see why the CHRISTMAS tradition of gift giving and celebration of love and joy has to tarnished and the man's name denied by those who do not believe in Christ religiously. USE SOME COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!

Religion and discrimination aside, let none of us forget that the reason we can freely express our views without repercussion is because we are AMERICANS. Still a democracy, despite those who with is to be a socialist country, but that is another website, another post . . .

Posted by: M at December 19, 2009 8:31 PM

I am unclear when exactly spreading the word of god became forcing even one else to adhear to christian moral standards. It is getting as bad as the Catholic church was historicaly.
No one discriminates against Christians. Christians do not hide in the dark to worship. Christians are not beaten, maimed or killed for their religious belefs. The government represents all Americans. I don't complain if you worship you shouldn't complain about my freedom to live my life as I choose. Any good Christian will recognize that even God gave us the freedom to choose our own path. You can not force religious beliefs on the rest of the country/world.

It is ironic that so many people choose not to belive in Christ, yet wonder why America has become unglued at the seams. Lets be more tolerent of others beliefs, THEY SAY! Let women choose life or DEATH of a child THEY SAY! It's okay to have gay marriage THEY SAY! Lets just get along, THEY SAY! Religion has no say in society anymore, THEY SAY! It's all about freedom of speech and how everyone can condem christain beliefs, but CHRISTIANS can't stand up for what they believe and if they do they are labeled " out of touch with society" My friends let me tell you, Christains are the only ones that are keeping the world together and not cracking anymore than it should. If I were the FATHER, I probably would not have tolerence to put up with all of the world as it is now. I am completely amazed that he loves us so much that he has yet destroyed us. A day will come when he chooses to take his believers with him, and on that day I am certainly glad I will not be around. NOT only will things get MORE UGLY than they are now, but the people that kept the world together will be gone. SO WHO DOES THAT LEAVE...... ?THE UNBELIEVING! The people "LEFT BEHIND" will find out that when LOVE leaves this earth there is no stopping the hatred that will be present. All the bad things happening in the world right now isn't something " NEW" It isn't something that " JUST HAPPENED" It is not going to get better in the since of the word. It has been " PRETOLD" and if you don't believe me just open scriputre. You will find out that what is happening in the world today is suppose to happen. ALL we can do as Christains is Pray for PEACE. What this child drew is really irrelivant, It is just sad that we are on the path that has lead to such commentary.

This is what is going on ALL over the Country. The Liberals are trying to say that God in Schools is not allowed.

Separation of Church and State does NOT mean take God out of the Schools. It was so the Churches could not tell the People who to vote for. The Liberals in this Country want God out of Schools. They want to teach your kids about Heather having two Mommies and all kinds of Liberal crap.

As Parents we need to stand up to these idiots in Education.

I am at loss as to where this blog is primarily going... This is about a 2nd grade boy who has been asked to draw a picture of christmas and drew a picture of HIMSELF on the cross... that is the problem...this has nothing to do with christ himself and stop being such sadists because if you actually believe that you will end up having to "worship hidden in private in caves", then you are in the wrong country...Be grateful and appreciative for the things you have because that is the TRUE meaning of christmas, not idolizing icons...

To all those who like to preach about the founding of this nation as a Christian nation, go back to school! Our founding fathers made clear that the reasons for the separation of church and state, and yes this would apply to the "socialist" institutions such as public schools, the USPS, libraries and the like, were to deny illogical religious interference in matters of state. Religion itself is a dangerous concept because everybody believes their religion is the truth making everyone else a liar. In my opinion, Christianity is the most dangerous religion next to Islam. They both have been responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent people.
As for a young boy and his drawing of himself dead upon a crucifix, I'd say it goes to show just how skewed and confusing the influence of Christianity is on our youth. Christians teach these "belief's" to children and expect them to comprehend these delusions all the while trying to tell them that the subjects learned in the classrooms are wrong. I can only hope that one day all religious fervor and misinterpretation will be smote from the classroom so that our children will be able to get a legitimate education instead being taught a bunch of ignorant fantasy! Like your sexual interludes, keep your poisonous religious crap in the privacy of your own home and stop inflicting it upon the youth of the world. Religion=fear-mongering+control, Logic=genuine courage+equality!!!

Posted by: Josh at December 20, 2009 2:29 AM

Religion does need to be kept out of schools. If you want prayers in school, send your child to whatever religious domination you are in private school. If you can't afford it, talk to a religous leader and if money is still an issue, which it prob will be, then that probably says a thing or two about the religion. It is in the constitution that church and state should be seperate. Everyone gets up in arms if someone teaches their kid something they dont believe in and up in arms if they can't. Sending the child home was a bad move on the teachers part but should have been explained that religion has no place in public school.
