Repeat DUI Senator: Busted!

A State Senator in Massachusetts has sunk about as low as a Senator, or anybody, can sink, after pleading guilty to a hit and run, and being sentenced to home confinement thanks to his recard as a repeat DUI offender.

Senator Galluccio loses his driver's license for 5 years, and is subjected to random alcohol testing from now on. Alcohol abuse is obviously a serious problem, and I hope he gets some treatment and rehabilitation for his addiction. Drunk driving especially is no joke though, and he deserves to be punihed regardless of how he seeks treatment.

A state lawmaker accused of leaving the scene of a crash in Cambridge was told to hand over his license and was sentenced to home confinement on Friday. Sen. Anthony Galluccio pleaded guilty on Friday of two charges of leaving the scene of a crash in connection with an Oct. 4 crash in Cambridge...

What is it about Massachusetts and their Senators drinking and driving? At least this one didn't kill someone! They ought to be removed from office.

Barb,

That comment is as ignorant as it gets. Let's look at it: First, to "blanket" lawmakers in the Bay State as alcoholic is a gross exaggeration. Second, to then attack a deceased person, aka, Ted Kennedy is a stunning insight into your lack of breeding--in fact. a comment such as this shines the "spot light" right back at you--and trust me Barb, it's not a good light to be seen in!

MAYBE IT'S THE WATER OR STRESS THEY ARE UNDER OR ALL THE MONEY THEY MAKE FOR DOING NOTHING, I KNOW IT'S GLOBAL WARMING, THEIR BRAINS ARE FRIED FROM THE HEAT!!!

Posted by: SALLY at December 20, 2009 7:24 AM

Steve, You're the idiot for even defending Ted Kennedy. He got away with manslauter at the very least. He left Mary jo to drown in his back seat while he ran away like a scared rabbit. He reported it 12 hours later...in order to sober up. He later went on to judge supreme court nominees on the judicial committee. What a joke.

The seantor was drinking too much KOOLAID ! I would be too if I had to live with guilt of killing Americans and agreeing to the crookery bill called Obumble Health Care.

Posted by: miffed american at December 20, 2009 8:16 AM

If his last name is Kennedy. No problem. Pay off some people and crack open another bottle of Ambassador Scotch.

Posted by: Mike at December 20, 2009 8:18 AM

This guy needs to serve time, lose his job, sent to rehab, JUST like the average EMPLOYEE would be treated. I'm going to follow the story and see what kind of punishment if any he will get.HOME CONFINEMENT? Would anyone else get that?

Posted by: karylkirk at December 20, 2009 8:44 AM

Better watch out. Better not cry. The MA Senate meets on Tuesday to introduce a bill making it mandatory to be drunk and drive if you are a Senator in the State of Massachusetts.

Posted by: Chutney Jones at December 20, 2009 9:27 AM

Wow! Cannot believe people are still defending Teddy! Sounds like this guy is an even bigger loser! Maybe someday the whole country will be a liberal cesspool like Massachusetts! I hope people wake up during the next election and don't believe the "hype"

Posted by: Larry Nemcek at December 20, 2009 9:32 AM

If he is a repeat offender he should be in JAIL! He didn't learn from his first infraction, so maybe some jail time might teach him that drunk driving is a bad thing to do. Being a senator should give him NO special treatment.

Posted by: Jim at December 20, 2009 9:40 AM

this goes on all the time - both republican and democrats - they think they can do no wrong!

Posted by: ruby roush at December 20, 2009 10:15 AM

Steve,

I can't understand why anyone in their right mine would want people of this caliber making decisons that affect all of our lives. The Morons like yourself are exactly why our country and states are in such complete moral and economic distress. Just because Galluccio was lucky enough not to have killed someone; you defend him??? You are more of a digrace then your two dinking buddies!!!

Posted by: Ernie Szuji at December 20, 2009 10:16 AM

To Steve Nelson: What if the hit & run object was one of your kids? Would you then change your mind; or would you still think that this action was the result of being over-stressed? Do you think that only politicians experience stress? If you do, then your deductive processes need a re-evalation as to competency! Secondly, to attack Barb like you did, shows your lack of education & understanding, and illustrates the air of superiority that most of you New Englanders have of yourselves.

These senators get away with some of the most outrages things I think they should be jailed and made to give some of our money back. And should not be allowed to run for a public office ever.Iknow some think this harsh treatment isnt fair tough shit morons.

Posted by: dick heed at December 20, 2009 10:37 AM

These politicians are CRIMINALS who makes laws for you that dont apply them them.

Only people not subjected to the heathcare plan is, ???? Our government who is creating the bill for you but not them.

Its a racket

"Attacking a deceased person like Ted Kennedy"???

Someone has a short memory & has forgotten a young lady who was deceased long ago while Kennedy spent almost 50 more years whoring & drinking.

Posted by: Anonymous at December 20, 2009 11:35 AM

We've become so much more enlightened about drinking and driving since the 60's thanks to Candy Lightner and MADD etc. back then everyone got a slap on the wrist not just Teddy. Even well into the eighties. For the most part Ted was one of the good guys and as far as health care is concerned I think that it's very hypocritical for a group of people that have the best health care plan in the world bar none that I help pay for to deny those without even the basics.

If any coverage (in the array of MSNBC internet items) informed the reader of the errant senator's political affiliation (Democrat? Republican?) I cannot find it. Because of the media's slobbering love affair with all things liberal, it's my guess Senator Galluccio is a liberal Democrat. Why is that my redundant guess? Because, Sherlock, were he a Republican the said media would have been all too happy to report it.

Miffed American, I think you are miffed. This guys a State Senator, not a U.S. Senator. He's is the state of Mass not the State of confusion in D.C. so he has no vote on Health Care reform or the war.
To carmen, the U.S. isn't even close to having the best health care plan in the world. We're way behind the likes of France and Germany.

Doesnt really matter Dem,or Rep. a drunk is a drunk keep them off the road... As far as health care is concerned they had a good bill until insurance companies and their lobbist tore it apart and once again the so called government of the people has once again screwed the people who trusted them to look out for the needs of many for the greed of a few...

GOOD BILL MY ASS. YOU MUST BE A WINE HEAD WHO WANTS US WORKING PEOPLE TO BY IT FOR YOU,

Posted by: LEO at December 20, 2009 2:06 PM

We buy theirs don't we? Don't you realize that you pay more now to cover the uninsured in the form of higher premiums..and even if you pay a premium and get sick that it doesn't mean that your insurer can't drop you. I got a call from my carrier telling me that they will no longer pay for meds. that I've been taking for years they have no problem accepting my premiums of about 8,000 per anum that I've been paying for years though. We need protection from them. I don't drink or smoke or take illegal drugs. Congress should be made to use commercial insurance and they'll sing a different tune. As far as what party this dui guy is in I don't care it's not relevant.

Posted by: Carmen at December 20, 2009 2:57 PM

P. S. To z10 I wasn't refering to the American Public when I was talking about the best coverage in the world I was refering to Congress and they do.

He had his chance to get help like I did for a drinking problem. Now, throw his ass away and out of the Senate! Accountability, integrity, honesty, or revolution! I'm so fucking fed up with our whole system.

Posted by: J.D. at December 20, 2009 4:27 PM

What I find amazing is how hard it was to find his party. But if he'd been a republican that would have been the first thing mentioned so why am I surprised it wasn't shown.

I'm so fucking fed up with our whole system. If he is afforded ANY special treatment, what message does that send to others in his position, higher, and lower?! I have come to the sad conclusion that one day perhaps, we will put down the XBOX controller and open our eyes, but it will be too late for us to demand accountability because we waited too long.

Posted by: J.D. at December 20, 2009 4:38 PM

I think all you people need to chill out. I am thinking about becoming a senator so I can drink and drive and not have to worry about the law.

Posted by: DW at December 20, 2009 4:43 PM

carmen - you f-in idiot..... teddy boy was not just only guilty of drunk driving. The self preserving ass hole was also guilty of Cowardess and at the very least man-slaughter.So spew your self righteous crasp somewhere else.Or better yet head on over to the kennedy Compound and ask to come in.They'll have you thrown to the ground just like a common criminal...American Icons - -please !!!!!

Yes Germany, Denmark etc all have such great Medical Care... In Denmark the working people pay 73% income tax.. with almost 60% of the population on welfare.. wonder who is paying for what ?? You want to pay for the lazy not to work?

Do not know if it is a joke or not, but when I was on Martha's Vineyard, the tour bus driver told us the famous wood bridge had to be replaced
by a concrete one because vacationers were carving off splinters to take home. (believe it or Not?)

Posted by: Jimbo2009 at December 20, 2009 9:17 PM

If I get a DUI, I will lose my job. Getting a new job will be difficult with background checks in the private sector. This guy should be booted out of the state senate. My only question is why would citizens of MA re-elect a guy who already has a DUI? Come on people. Hold these elected officials responsible.

As a side topic, I'm just wondering if people posting comments on this blog have completed a secondary school education. I've seen better English written by foreigners with extremely limited English exposure. Attempts to support a point-of-view that are written in extremely poor English detract significantly from the credibility of the source. Just something to think about......

Posted by: Dan at December 21, 2009 1:08 PM

And as a follow-up to my previous comment, why are people commenting on "news" that is being published with absolutely no sourcing? By the way, I have some oceanfront property to sell in Arkansas.
