Brandon Jennings Fined For Tweet

NBA rookie Brandon Jennings is getting a hefty $7.500 fine for twittering. And not for tweeting anything offensive or negative on his twitter, but simply for congratulating his team on a big win.

The NBA's problem with the tweet was that it came too soon after the game ended, while he was still in the arena and during a span the league considers "game time," which means players are not allowed to tweet. Jennings has said he understand he broke the rules and it was a rookie mistake, but he feels the fine was excessivem, just as he was getting ready to do his christmas shopping and buy last-minute gifts for his family. Looks like the Jennings kids might be getting another etch-a-sketch instead of that flat screen TV.

Bucks rookie Brandon Jennings was fined $7,500 by the NBA on Friday for posting a message on his Twitter account after Milwaukee's 108-101 double-overtime win over Portland last weekend. Jennings was fined for the timing of his post, not the content, when he tweeted: "Back to 500. Yess!!! "500" means where doing good. Way to Play Hard Guys."

With all the things that are wrong with professional sports I find it rather stupid on the part of the NBA to focus on something as trivial as twittering after a game. Had the final buzzer sounded? If so, the freakin' game was over. I don't care if he sent a Western Union telegram.

Very Sad!
With all the stupid things NBA players are doing now a days, this fine is rediculous. The game was over. But I guess the NBA knows best. They know that it starts with Tweeting too soon and eventually turns into drug and alchol use and abusing small animals.

What's next? Retroactive fines will cause Dennis Rodman to pay fans and players for his distracting hairstyles and animated tattoos? Or will Michael Jordan become the spokesman for why it's inappropriate to shed a tear too fast after winning a championship? This Tweeting Fine based on "time" is pathetic. Freedom of speech is locked up in a prison somewhere along with common sense, will, mind-your-own business, and get a clue.

OK, getting fined for Twittering about what his team had just done is ridiculous and absurd. One would think that the NBA would have more important tasks at hand. But hey we know more about what Ashton Kutcher had for breakfast on a daily basis because of his Tweets... Should we fine him for opening his Wheaties box and telling us about it?

Seriously! I can understand the fact that he was a little early with the tweet but, damn, $7,500?! And with everything else wrong with NBA players, ya'll pick this trival mess! That's special!

I think that the REAL transgression here is not the timing of the "tweet" but that the guy actually wrote "where" when he meant to write "we're". LOL. And maybe it is WAY too much to ask a guy like this to actually know that he should have said "doing well" rather than "doing good". Alas...noone cares. So I will shut up now.

I think that professional sports in general should focus on the issues of substance abuse and domestic violence with their players and staff rather than how soon after a game someone sent a tweet or posted on facebook or other social networking sites. The $7,500 fine IMHO is excessive especially around the Holidays. Thank you very much Uncle Scrooge!

trytrytri,
All your grammar and spelling criticism and you wrote "noone". Nice.

I think the decision is stupid , it would be different if it were DURING the game. Mr Jennings is making 2.1 million $$ this year so I think he'll be OK. !!

someone in the NBA office needed some drug money

@joebob
Your comment about spelling is not actually a spelling issue, but one of typing skills. There should be a space between the oes. ;)

Either typing or spelling.
