Obama Signs $787 Billion Stimulus Into Law


One of Obama's first actions as President, that continues to have a major impact that is hotly debated, was when Obama signed the $787 Billion stimulus into law.

It was an emergency measure designed to halt the global economic crisis that began abruptly during 2008's campaign season (though some financial experts had predicted it for quite a while before that). Much debate was held over the best approach, and arguments continue today over whether it was too money, not enough, and whether the money went to the right places and with the proper regulations and strings attached. It may well be years before we can really tell how successful the stimulus package was, but hopefully the initial signs that the worst is already behind us will prove accurate.
