Yes, it is natural, but that was not a Natural situation. If the Lion was really acting as "nature" intended, it would have killed it immediately. It was merely playing with it's "Food", (it probably wasn't hungry at the time) and the playing can be deadly.

I feel sorry for the lion. A majestic animal who lost it's natural instinct to kill. Whether it just ate or not,is irrelevant, it should have killed that deer, because that is what lions do. It probably has never seen a live animal up close other than another lion. All of it's food has been dumped into the disclosure, then the animal is let out of it's cage... hmmm i guess after a while, it all tastes like chicken.

Life in the wild has never been comfortable or easy. It's eat or be eaten. Farm animals are some of the most pampered living beings - Paris Hilton aside - on the planet. They have no threat of starvation, predation. They are vaccinated against disease. Some of these animal rights folks refuse to look at nature for what it really is -an amoral darwinian contest. Poor dumb caged lion, didn't know what to do with that deer. If it had been a wild cat. The deer would have been breakfast and the zoo keepers wouldn't have had to feed the lion for a couple of days.

I hunt too and I also believe that the deer population is out of control but hunting during deer season and a deer jumping into a lion cage are two totally different things. Also saying that people should run them down with a truck is ignorant. Hunting is a sporrt and has its roots in our history. However, blinding a deer with headlights and hittting it on purpose is cowardly. I bet you feel really big and powerful when you do it. the real problem here is not the fact that the deer did or did not get eaten by the lioness. Its the fact that those animals cost A LOT of money to rear and keep healthy in those enclosures, now if you know ANYTHING about white tails is the fact that they are extremely wary and wiley. So for this deer to end up there, SOMETHING had to be wrong with it. If that lioness had eaten that deer and gotten sick, you are talking THOUSANDS of your tax dollars to get that animal back to health. I for one, amall for nature taking its course, but that environment is not natural, get that deer out of there before it spreads disease throughout that enclosure.

1. The lion's captive upbringing made them confused and incapable predators, though their instinct told them to react in some way. Try playing with a ball and string with a domestic kitty. I love all the people who keep saying the deer population is at a "crisis" point. I also agree that the zoos are prisons for animals and are cruel wastes of money. It's good to see the deer escape but I totally believe in nature taking it's course. Going back to my point on the deer population being at a "crisis" point I think people need to start looking at another population that's at a crisis point... US. People need to stop popping out so many kids when they can hardly take care of themselves. Poverty is a curse and people need to realize that a lower population is the first step towards getting rid of it. I am also a zoo keeper, and comments about zoos being prisons is stupid...many of these animals are threatened in the wild due to people, and as we spend our lives trying to save them, take care of them, and give people a chance to see them and learn about them, and learn why they are in zoos, it is a pity that such people have to bash us for what we do. Until you see how the animals in certain zoos are taken care of, and how happy they are when us keepers are around, I beg you to shut your gob and quit your bellyaching. How happy the animals are, huh?...hilarious! They've had Cheetahs in other zoos that wouldn't mate until the zoos started making the Cheetahs chase their food by hooking it up to a spring loaded rope and releasing it. In other words wild animals are happier chasing their food, running, and living.

Now I will admit zoos do play a contribution to animal conservation. But unless the animals are an endangered species then yes, it is a prison to the animals.

Take deer steaks, drop them in hot olive oil and butter, searing them on both sides. Reduce heat and cover. Next, carmelize chopped onions in butter and a bit of sugar. When deer is cooked to your liking, de-glaze pan with a bit of apple cider vinegar and add to carmelized onion. Add onions to steaks and salt to taste. ENJOY!

Opened my eyes as to how tough life would be in the Wild and how we are not making it any better for the animals.
How easy it is for us ,just to walk into a Mac. or some other Food fad store and dig in.
Its an education but to put it into practice would be wisdom.

Although the Deer was rescued it had to be put to sleep as its injuries were to great. We just threw the meat away instead of feeding what we place in captivity?
