Volkswagen's 240 MPG Car (PHOTO)

Volkswagen has revealed details about their new new hybrid car, that first of all is the coolest looking car ever, and which second of all they say gets no less than 240 MPG.

The car, called the L1, is a two seater, and has a revolutionary design unlike any car on the market now. Far from the bland and corny appearance that used to be associated with eco-friendly cars, this is a hybrid car I could see appearing in rap videos soon after it comes out. (has anyone made a "ghost-ride the hybrid" video yet?)

check out the photo below, and more details in the article on this new car with its amazing look and mileage. we'll see how drivers actually feel about it once they drive it though, maybe it's not as good as it looks.

Volkswagen introduced the L1 two-seater concept full-hybrid, which it reports is the "most fuel-efficient car in the world." When driven in an eco-friendly manner, Volkswagen says it uses only one liter (roughly a quart or quarter gallon) in a 62-mile trek -- translating to about 240 miles per gallon. It can achieve an estimated 100 mph (of course, at the sacrifice of fuel economy).

The L1 is a full-hybrid vehicle, which weighs a mere 838 pounds. Passenger sits behind the driver in its narrow cockpit.

It's a motorcycle, so it actually should get better gas mileage than that

Its ugley Hahahahahha!

I think I'll stick with my 36mpg sedan....

The high mileage concept is great, and all car companies should be looking to significantly improve their models MPG ratings. However, if this vehicle were involved in a collision, especially with something like an SUV or a large truck, I'd be willing to bet there would be no survivors.

it looks like if this vehicle was involved in a collision with a dog, there would be no survivors
still the concept has potential

very cool

OMG
Its a coffin with wheels
If you got in a crash u would be dead because of its limited space. The airbag would smash into you so hard that it would break your neck because normally you go FORWARD in a rear crash and BACKWARDS in a frontal crash so your passenger would be dead either way and in the rollover...
Sure its good gas millage but they do that so you buy the car. Its probally more than a Firarri. I have a Firarri and those things are freaking expensive! Im just saying that to prove a point. They look like motorcycles with hoods and four wheels.

I just wanted to say to Rita, you do not own a "Firarri". It's spelled Ferrai. I know how to spell my car, 1983 Chevy Impala. Yeah, it may not be a hundred thousand dollar plus "Firarri", and I may get roughly 20 miles a gallon, but if I'm in a crash, I'm safe.

I'd be curious to know more about it. While it wouldn't be suitable for a family of 5 (like mine), it would suffice as a personal commuter vehicle. I'd like to see the technology applied to a 5 passenger car. Other car companies could offer 4 seater, 100mpg cars now; if they'd apply the know-how.

Posted by: Alan at September 19, 2009 12:18 PM

I actually think it looks good. Very retro, and I'm sure if someone saw it on the street they would want to know more about it. I wonder how much it will cost?

Posted by: Sami at September 19, 2009 12:20 PM

You guys fail at spelling "Ferrari". All of you.

Posted by: JT at September 19, 2009 12:24 PM

This is a concept car for those people out their asking how much does it cost.

Posted by: jack at September 19, 2009 12:44 PM

my "farari" is going to be sweet.
this car is like a plane on wheels. if VW was designing planes they would have done an amazing job but this is a car
VW fail

the little thing needs some wings, it's just a little space capsule anyway.

Posted by: Al at September 19, 2009 1:00 PM

wow its ugly but very fuel efficient

Posted by: jack at September 19, 2009 1:35 PM

lmfao no one of you have a farrai because there about 559.62thousand and theres only about 90 of them in existance same with lamborghini, exept for tho theres less. there gay anyway if I had to choose between a lambo and a 69 gto id choose the gto lmfao cuz you dont destroy it if you hit a fkn speed bump!

Posted by: if you have a farrai your gay! at September 19, 2009 5:37 PM

It's just a concept. It's not like they're putting them on the market yet. They're still working out the kinks. I'm just saying is it really worth it to be a critic about it yet?

Posted by: Kelsie at September 19, 2009 8:06 PM

Has to have a small gas tank! Ever wonder why vehicles w/exceptional mpg's have very small tanks? Some scooters don't even hold one gallon! Besides once the big oil companies buy the rights to this technology it'll never be reality! The vehicle may be introduced but it might look totally different and definitely won't be getting 240 mpg's!

Posted by: realist at September 19, 2009 10:24 PM

Get used to the idea people. In a few years the highways will be filled with vehicles similar to this one. If everybody drives one they wouldn't be that dangerous.
