Tooth in Eye Surgery

Yes, you read that correctly. A woman in Florida recently had successful surgery to regain her eyesight by implanting a tooth in her eye.

The procedure is called Modified Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis surgery, and is actually not so rare as one might think..it's been done before in Europe, but is still quite new and this was the first successful tooth-in-eye surgery in America. In the surgery, if I'm understanding this correctly they pull one of the patient's teeth and attach an artificial lens to it, then put it back in their cheek so it can fuse together, and then put this tooth-lens contraption into the patient's eye? Amazing.. see the details in the link below..

Now maybe these scientists can work on a foot-in-mouth surgery for Kanye West? He needs some help too...

After nine years without sight, a grandmother is finally able to see again thanks to a revolutionary tooth-in-eye surgery procedure she underwent in South Florida, WPLG-TV reported.

Sharron Thorton, 60, lost her sight in both eyes in 2000 as the result of a skin condition that destroyed her cornea. In March, she flew from Mississippi to South Florida for a procedure called osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis at Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
