July 17, 2009Frank McCourt: Gravely Ill
What sad sad news. But Frank McCourt was blessed with such a long and triumphant life, beyond what anyone could have hoped for given the profoundly humble beginnings Frank McCourt documented in his own beautiful book Angela's Ashes. Frank McCourt's brother Malachy actually lives in my neighborhood and I see him often. I also have many friends who were Frank's students at Stuyvesant. My heart and condolences go out to him and the rest of the familt, and I hope they are able to have peaceful final days with their beloved family, a great author and teacher and a great human being.
