Pink "Dear Mr. President" Live on MTV TRL

Pink performing her much-anticipated anti-Bush anthem "Dear Mr. President" live in Times Square, on MTV's TRL. This is a pretty damn good protest song, as pop protest goes these days. Easily beats out that Conor Oberst joint.

"Alecia Moore’s father is a Vietnam veteran and a staunch Republican. She is a devout Democrat.

There was a point when their political differences almost ruined their relationship, until they decided not to talk about the war in Iraq, abortion, the failure to locate Osama bin Laden or any of President Bush’s speeches or initiatives.

Then, Moore — known to the world as Pink — wrote a simple song called “Dear Mr. President” with songwriter/producer Billy Mann. Taking a young girl’s perspective, Moore sings: “Dear Mr. President/What do you feel when you see all the homeless in the street?/Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?/What do you feel when you look in the mirror?/Are you proud?

...For Moore, the most fulfilling part of recording “I’m Not Dead” was her father’s reaction to “Dear Mr. President.”

“I saw goose bumps on his arms,” Moore recalls. “He said, ‘I feel like I’m back in the ’60s. Isn’t it great that you live in a country where you can say those things and they can be heard? Good for you for exercising the right that we fought for.”’

In Moore’s view, “Bush is the worst president the United States has ever had.” After hearing “Dear Mr. President,” she says her father told her, “I think you’re right.”

I have never really listened to her music before, but really LOVED this song...brings up Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Neal Young to mind. But of course when I think of Pink, I think of Pink Floyd! ha

Good job PINK!

WOW, It is so POWERFUL, THANK YOU PINK and NEAL YOUNG for your gift of writing and singing powerful and TRUE words. GREAT SONG, I hope BUSH hears this and other songs to come. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES BACK AROUND!!!

I loved your song. I think you have a beautiful voice, and I remember saying that years ago. I have to disagree when you say Bush is the worse Pres. of them all. For African people in America, the worst one was Hayes, who sold us out to the southerners, to become president. He repealled Reconstruction, and left us to the hands, and lynch ropes of our enimies. And basically,we are still at the hands of a ruthless gvtmt.

Hello PINK,

I just listened to "Dear Mr. President" and I am proud to know that some beautiful, young people, especially women like yourself, are taking a leadership role in helping us find our VOICES!!!!

I am a 57 years young woman who attended college from 1966-1971 and had the passion and presence of mind, to stand up against the Viet Nam War, march to Washington to be present at Resurrection City (which spoke to the plight of the poor in our country) and rallied in support of the ERA.

I am an active Democratic in the Democratic party here in Palm Beach County, Florida (and we ALL know the work we have to do down here to get things CORRECT in having safe and fair elections).

Please write a song about "SAFE VOTING" (sort of along the lines of the campaign to promote SAFE SEX). I think it could be catchy and timely!!!

This is an important issue which is and will be affecting more and more precincts and counties; because our Republican counterparts, under the influence of this evil administration, has so lowered the barre, that fighting DIRTY has become the established norm.

Their way of doing business has either put us in the position of sinking to their level OR reclaiming the election process and restoring it to safety. Once we secure the vote, then we can work on not having any group of citizens ever being disenfranchized again.

Thank you for listening and I hope to HEAR a lot from you.

Sincerely,
Nicole Reisch-Galante

I'm moved by this! I can't believe all that this administration is getting away with in our democracy!
It's worse than the McCarthy era, because we are at war,and there is absolutely no oversite!
Carl Rove is a better propagandist than even Hitler had to offer.
On monday this administration will offer an amendment to the constitution to ban gay marriage.
Just as any other initiative this administration puts forth, this one will cost taxpayers alot of money, will not help to put bread and butter on the table, will scapegoat a segment of our community, and will distract from all they have not accomplished to progress and unite our democratic agenda!

"To Scapegoat a segment of our Community". Well said Patti. It recalls hitlers approach to politics. Thanks for Pink too.
Our Government spent millions developeing High Definition T.V. and funding good old Zenith Radio in the 20 year effort to bring H.D.T.V. to market. It was to keep America first in World Markets as we were at the time. When H.D.T.V. was finally ready for Market, a partner of Zeniths, L.G.E, of South Korea, took control and took Zeniths patents for "Flat Monitors', (Now in your phone) and High Definition and all of the manufacturing techniques and infer-structure now in every day use around the World. The American Stock-holders were left nothing and Our Governements Investement gave back nothing to America. Every H.D.T.V. and "Flat Monitor sold around the World today sends wealth to South Korea. Money for their Tax Base. Better Schools and fewer Pot-holes for South Korea while Governement propaganda makes North Korea the "Bad Guys'. South Korea is a much richer nation now and that has resulted in making America a much poorer one. I was at the Zenith plant where the first "Flat Monitors" were made. It was in Melrose, Illinois, a ghetto now, where the Closed Plant is. Operha gave Pink a stage but she never mentioned Zenith in Chicago. She moved to L.A. instesd. My Congress-woman is so well insulated from "The Represented", that all my letters of this nature were lost. It's exactley what I would have expected had we lost the Korean War. Another effect in Gov spending cuts includes a cut back in assistence to the Mentally Disturbed. I've been told I'm not Crazy any more. Every cloud some silver. If Operha does a show from the Chicago Ghetto where The Dead Factory is, or has Locals recall all the South Koreans that came for training and kept exactly, to them-selves, or the Worker found dead in the Plant from an "Industrial Accident", then I'll believe She is Un-Purchased. Pink, Patti, or any American you want to name. You've been diminished.Fewer Books in The Rochester Library, fewer under paid Teachers in Her Schools.

Dear Pink; You're getting close to half a million hits on U-Tube;Why does your UK site say that you won't release Dear Mr President as a single in the U.S.?
This is the time;you have the message! Stand Up!

Posted by: Patti at June 14, 2006 6:19 AM

What's happening? I was not allowed to go to a UK site, and the times I played Dear Mr President on u-tube were not accounted in their count up.My plays added nothing to the count in other words!

Posted by: Patti at June 25, 2006 6:08 AM

I'll keep playing it though! And I hope you release it as a single;in time for the protest movement that is trying to form!

Posted by: Patti at June 25, 2006 6:22 AM

Pink...you rock girl!!!!!
i am a gay English guy who had started to think that Americans had lost the fighting democratic spirit of the 1960's that enabled you to change so much of what was wrong in your country.
Thank you for putting me right.
Dear Mr President is possibly the best protest song of all time and god knows you guys need some strong protests to get rid of that maniac Bush.

I bought 'Dear....' today and have played i non stop for 3 hours. The album is FANTASTIC and i hope 'Dear.....' is released as a single. Keep the strength and fight on.

Thankyou everyone.I did not think Dear Mr. President would end up in public. I'm happy to hear your opinions because every one matters in this country.Even the little guy, such as myself.

Looks like we're the only ones left on this feed! I take it you don't want to be drafted as the Janis Joplin of this generation!
If you did you'd be singing this song at every appearance!Controversy be damned!

Posted by: Patti at August 1, 2006 1:30 AM

I didn't sing the song. I wrote it.

Posted by: Alicia at August 2, 2006 12:04 AM

Tell me more. Please!

Posted by: Patti at August 3, 2006 12:03 AM

I would sincerely like to talk to you further. you can reach me at Gentlestar@aol.com

Posted by: Patti at August 3, 2006 12:08 AM

Absolutely blows me away. I would never have given Pink a single thought before. I'm a 48 year old Male and literally ran out to the store to buy the CD because of this song. The CD is great but this song just touches a cord with so many in this country. I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat this is the USA and it's about time we started to stand tall and proud. Our poiliticians need to be held accountable for their actions and not just try to liune their friends pockets. I hope this song becomes the number 1 in the country as it deserves it in every way. Thank you for having the guts to say what so many others think but are afraid to let out.

I am not from the United States, I'm from Canada but this songs still touchs me in many ways. Everything Pink has said in the song, is touching and seems to be true. I hope that everyone that listens to this song,is as touched as I was.

I went to Pink's concert at St. Petersburg, Florida. I got there since 4:00pm and the concert started at 9:00pm but I wanted to be in front of her when she sang Dear Mr. president! Totally enjoyed the show, but when she sang Dear Mr. president, the emotion was like a wave! everyone started applauding and cheering when she sang "what kind of father may hate his own daughter if she were gay". I felt so proud! since I'm a lesbian myself and my girlfriend's parents hated me so much, I can relate to it. I'm writing a paper about a favorite song of mine, and I'm writing about Dear Mr. president by Pink. Since my professor doesn't like Bush either, and the song is great, I hope I get an A too! THANK YOU PINK! WE LOVE YOU! come back to Tampa soon and sing Mr. president not once but make a whole concert of it!
